About us

Bird of Light Ukraine blends the best of the West and Ukraine.

As a Ukrainian organization, we are intimately connected to the issues, allowing us to address them swiftly and effectively. As a Western organization, we understand the oversight, governance, and transparency expected from a 501c3 charity.

This powerful combination has enabled us to deliver extraordinary results since the 2022 full-scale invasion, positively impacting 585,000 civilians across $5.9M in charitable projects in Ukraine to date.

Our Vision

At Bird of Light Ukraine, our vision is to establish a resilient bridge connecting the West and Ukraine by merging Western resources, ideas, and talent with Ukrainian ingenuity and resourcefulness. By bringing these two strengths together, we create sustainable, efficient, and effective humanitarian solutions that allow each party to have a seat at the table and excel in their respective areas of expertise.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to build a bridge of opportunity, innovation, and partnership between Ukraine and the West. Through this connection, we are committed to inspiring growth, fostering resilience, and transforming Ukraine into a beacon of progress and possibility for the 21st century.

Zhanna Galeyeva

Co-founder, Executive Director

I always felt inside of me that one day, I’ll create something. I didn’t know what it was, and where to start. But I always felt as if every experience in my life was just another piece of the puzzle. All being added together for a special creation someday. So throughout my life, I was just getting closer and closer to this moment I guess.

And then one day, everything just came together. All the experiences and connections that I’ve acquired over the years came together. Friends, family, friends of friends. The story, the circumstances, the moments. All coming together into this project that is now called Bird of Light Ukraine.

I never saw myself doing humanitarian work but I was always admiring those who do this kind of work. Watching movies about people who selflessly dedicate their lives to serving those in less favourable circumstances. Touching something inside of me. Evoking this calling.

So, here I am.

Isaac Yeung

Co-founder & Chief Operating Officer

I originally came to Ukraine to support Zhanna in her quest to reconnect with her father. War was looming in the background during this time, but I knew that I couldn’t push her to pack up and leave. So, I came to Ukraine instead. Just in case.

That decision has since taken us on a wild journey culminating in the development of our humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. As Zhanna’s co-founder and chief operations support on this project, I handle all the non-Ukrainian operations, finances, and everything in-between.

Life always brings us somewhere for a reason.
