CHILDCARE INSTITUTIONALIZATION CRISIS

  • Before the war, Ukraine already faced one of the highest rates of child institutionalization, affecting 1.5% of all children.

  • Immediate reform is needed to transition children to family and community-based care.

CRITICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT NEEDED

  • Many schools, essential for mental health support, have been destroyed, leaving children without critical assistance.

  • Rebuilding educational facilities and mental health support systems is crucial to prevent long-term educational challenges and psychological issues

IMMEDIATE CHILDCARE REFORM REQUIRED

  • Urgent efforts focus on developing family and community-based care services.

  • Strengthening the social service workforce and securing sustainable funding are critical.

  • Reducing reliance on institutional care will improve the well-being of vulnerable children.

What We’re Doing About It

HOMES FOR
FOSTER FAMILIES

  • We are building large family foster homes to transition orphans from institutional settings into nurturing family environments, each home accommodating 6-10 children.

  • By providing a stable and supportive family-like atmosphere, these foster families ensure better developmental outcomes for children, reducing reliance on institutional care.

ART THERAPY FOR
UKRAINIAN CHILDREN

  • We are training foster parents in art therapy techniques, allowing them to provide therapeutic support without needing specialized psychological training.

  • By partnering with Artolution, we are expanding the reach of art therapy in Ukraine and building national capacity for alternative therapeutic methods.

CHILDCARE REFORM
PILOT PROGRAM

  • We are collaborating with the Ukrainian government to implement childcare deinstitutionalization reforms.

  • By training social workers to support families, we aim to reunite children with their families and enhance family capacity to care for children, preventing institutionalization.

Support the future of Ukraine

There are many worthy causes to support in Ukraine. This one is about the future of the nation. That’s why we’re working on this project.
