3000 Care Packages to Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, and Luhansk.

You don’t realize how much work it takes to assemble 3000 care packages until you start it. With a team of over 30 volunteers supporting us, we set off to work early morning. We managed to assemble 800 by the time we stopped at 7:30 PM. It’s going to take a little while.

Each bag provides enough food for two people for one week, and hygiene products to last one month:

  • 1L of Oil

  • 2 bags of dry pasta (1kg)

  • 1kg of rice

  • 1kg of sugar

  • 1kg of flour

  • 2 packages of meat (600g)

  • 2 cans of tuna (300g)

  • 3 cans of beans (1.6kg)

  • 1 pack of olives

  • 4 packs of instant soup (4 servings/bag)

  • 4 packs of instant noodles

  • 4 packs of instant coffee

  • 4 chocolate wafer bars

  • 40 bags of black tea

  • 2 toothbrushes

  • 2 tubes of toothpaste

  • 2 razers

  • 2 bars of soap

  • 1kg of laundry detergent

  • 24 feminine hygiene pads

  • 1L of Domestos bleach cleaning solution

Altogether, this bag weighs about 10 kilos and contains 28,693 calories. Roughly 2000 calories per day for two people for a week :) And to add to this, because we are purchasing these items from wholesalers in Romania and Turkey one of the first ports of shipping into Europe, we’re able to assemble these care bags for roughly $35 instead of nearly $100 at retail.

And to give a sense of urgency to the need for these items, these bags were shipped off as soon as we could bag them. Trucks and vans from around the country come to Chernivtsi to load up humanitarian supplies to deliver back home and this often means waiting around for days or weeks to get the necessary items before they depart back home.
